Brewery story
Holla Brewing was established in September 2025 by Tobias Holland in Potton, Bedfordshire, following a journey that began with a simple homebrewing kit and a plastic bucket in the kitchen. What initially seemed like an inexpensive way to make beer quickly developed into a serious passion for brewing. Tobias's earliest attempts were far from perfect, producing beers that were sometimes overly sweet, oxidised, flat or lacking the hop aroma he had hoped to achieve. Rather than abandoning the hobby, these setbacks encouraged him to learn more about the brewing process and develop the skills needed to produce better beer.
As his enthusiasm grew, Tobias gradually invested in better equipment, higher-quality ingredients and a deeper understanding of brewing techniques. He progressed from basic extract kits to all-grain brewing, replacing plastic fermentation buckets with stainless-steel equipment and developing greater control over his recipes. The learning process involved plenty of challenges, including overflowing kettles, troublesome fermentations and long evenings spent cleaning equipment. Each batch provided another opportunity to experiment, refine recipes and understand how different ingredients and techniques influenced the finished beer.
The brewery's development was driven by a willingness to explore different beer styles rather than concentrate exclusively on one particular approach. Tobias experimented with everything from crisp lagers to hazy IPAs, developing recipes that balanced freshness, flavour and drinkability. One particularly ambitious project involved brewing a traditional lambic-style beer, demonstrating his interest in more challenging brewing methods. Over time, the garage was transformed into a small nanobrewery, providing a dedicated space for producing beer on a more consistent basis and laying the foundations for a commercial operation.
In September 2025, Holla Brewing formally began operating as a commercial nanobrewery from its home-based premises in Potton. Despite the transition from hobby to business, its philosophy remains closely connected to the curiosity and determination that inspired Tobias's earliest brewing experiments. Small-batch production allows the brewery to concentrate on freshness, recipe development and careful attention to detail, while continuing to explore different ingredients and beer styles. Holla represents a grassroots approach to independent brewing, built on practical experience, experimentation and a commitment to making each new beer better than the last.
