What We Brew in the Shadows

About this beer

A bold, intensely aromatic New Zealand IPA from Bath's Electric Bear Brewing Co., inspired by creatures of the night and packed with an expressive trio of New Zealand hops. What We Brew in the Shadows combines Motueka, Rakau and Riwaka to create a vibrant, tropical drinking experience bursting with ripe fruit, citrus and distinctive herbal complexity. Juicy papaya and mango lead the way, accompanied by a generous squeeze of fresh lime that introduces a bright, zesty contrast to the beer's tropical richness. Beneath the fruit-forward character, dank and sticky hop notes bring additional depth, while hints of boiled sweets and marmalade add a playful layer of sweetness. A subtle herbal quality emerges in the background, complemented by a creamy suggestion of coconut that rounds out the flavour profile. The malt bill combines Extra Pale malt with flaked malted oats and flaked torrefied wheat, supporting a soft, rounded body that complements the beer's expressive hop character. At 6% ABV, this full-flavoured IPA delivers a satisfying combination of tropical intensity, citrus freshness and smooth drinkability. Unfined, unfiltered and unpasteurised, What We Brew in the Shadows is naturally brewed and suitable for vegans, showcasing Electric Bear's playful creativity and enthusiasm for vibrant, hop-forward beers.
