About this beer

An exceptionally rich and powerful Black Rye Barley Wine from Emperor's Brewery, created in collaboration with Dutch brewery Klere Boght. Dark Reflection is an ambitious barrel-aged release that combines a substantial dark malt bill with the distinctive character of Welsh single malt whisky and the natural sweetness of Sukkary dates. Brewed using malted barley, rye malt and flaked oats, alongside Demerara sugar, the beer develops a thick, full-bodied foundation with considerable depth and richness. Following fermentation, it spends eleven months ageing in first-fill Penderyn Madeira Single Malt Whisky barrels with Sukkary dates, allowing the beer to absorb the complex character of the whisky-seasoned oak while developing additional layers of dark fruit sweetness. The result is a deeply indulgent barley wine with a thick texture, pronounced sweetness and a dark, seductive character. Rye malt contributes to the beer's distinctive grain profile, while the dates complement its substantial malt richness. At an imposing 14% ABV, Dark Reflection is designed for slow appreciation, showcasing the interplay between powerful dark beer, extended barrel maturation and carefully selected ingredients. Inspired by the mysterious Mirror Cave, this collaborative release offers an intense and contemplative drinking experience.
