Brewery story

The story behind Beer Me

Beer Me Brewery was established in 2014 by the owners of The Belgian Café in Eastbourne, building on more than a decade of experience in the catering and hospitality industry. Inspired by the rich brewing traditions of Belgium and continental Europe, the founders set out to produce the kinds of beers they genuinely enjoyed drinking. Operating from the Eastbourne seafront, the brewery began producing small batches of characterful ales using a 2.5-barrel brewing system. Its close connection with The Belgian Café provided a natural home for the beers, allowing customers to experience locally brewed continental styles directly from the brewery in a setting already associated with Belgian food and drink.

From its beginnings, Beer Me developed a brewing philosophy centred on flavour, authenticity and experimentation. Drawing inspiration from Belgian brewing traditions, the brewery creates beers with their own distinctive character rather than simply reproducing established styles. Its beers are naturally conditioned and unfiltered, retaining the qualities associated with traditional brewing and minimal processing. Every beer is suitable for vegans, reflecting a commitment to producing beers without animal-derived ingredients or processing aids. The brewery also handles its brewing, bottling and canning in Eastbourne, maintaining close control over production while keeping its operation deliberately small and hands-on.

An important chapter in the brewery's development came in 2023 when Beer Me became women-owned. The business continued to embrace its independent identity, combining a respect for Belgian brewing heritage with a willingness to experiment and challenge convention. Rather than following changing beer trends, the brewery has focused on creating honest, flavourful beers that reflect its own tastes and values. Its small-scale production approach allows attention to be given to individual batches, with an emphasis on quality and personality. This combination of traditional inspiration and creative independence remains central to Beer Me's identity and its approach to producing distinctive beers on the Sussex coast.

Today, Beer Me Brewery remains closely connected to The Belgian Café, which serves as its official taproom on Eastbourne's Grand Parade. Overlooking the pier and seafront, the venue offers visitors an opportunity to enjoy the brewery's beers in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Tasting flights allow customers to explore different releases, while food and regular live music contribute to the lively atmosphere. The brewery continues to produce its naturally conditioned, unfiltered and vegan-friendly beers locally, maintaining a strong connection between brewing and hospitality. By bringing Belgian-inspired brewing to Eastbourne and serving its beers directly to customers, Beer Me has established a distinctive presence in the town's independent beer scene.
