Historic Scottish brewery founded in 1979 and regarded as one of the country's pioneering microbreweries. Broughton produces ales, IPAs, lagers and stouts, including its long-running Jock range and newer Hopo beers.
Brewery story
Broughton Brewery was founded in 1979 by David Younger and James Collins in a former sheep station in the village of Broughton in the Scottish Borders, becoming one of Scotland's pioneering microbreweries.
The brewery built its reputation with distinctive Scottish ales including Greenmantle, Old Jock and Merlin, helping establish an alternative to the mass-produced beers that dominated the market at the time.
Over the following decades Broughton expanded its range and distribution, with its beers gaining recognition in competitions including CAMRA, SIBA and the World Beer Awards.
In 2020 the brewery introduced a major rebrand, focusing its range around established Jock beers and the newer Hopo family of IPAs and lagers.
Broughton joined Spey Valley Brewery in 2022, bringing the two Scottish breweries together to streamline production and distribution.
In 2026 production moved from Broughton's historic Scottish Borders home to the Spey Valley Brewery site near Mulben in Moray, beginning a new chapter for the brewery while retaining the Broughton beer range.
