About Felinfoel Brewery

Felinfoel Brewery was founded in 1878 in the village of Felinfoel, near Llanelli, after local businessman David John built a dedicated brewery to meet the growing demand for the beer originally brewed at the Union Inn. The brewery still stands on its original site beside the River Lliedi, where it has remained at the heart of the local community for almost 150 years and continues to be run by the same family through six generations of brewers.

The brewery secured its place in brewing history in 1935 by becoming the first brewery in the world to commercially can beer. Working alongside the local Welsh tinplate industry, Felinfoel pioneered a new method of packaging that would eventually transform the global beer industry. Its innovation helped support local manufacturing during challenging economic times while establishing the brewery as an international pioneer in brewing and packaging.

Today, Felinfoel continues to produce its beers from the original brewery in Llanelli, combining traditional brewing methods with modern equipment introduced over generations of careful investment. Best known for beers including Double Dragon, Celtic Gold, Dragon's Heart and its IPA, the brewery remains proudly independent, producing award-winning Welsh ales and lagers while continuing a brewing legacy that stretches back to the nineteenth century.
