A powerful and traditionally brewed English India Pale Ale from Burton Bridge Brewery in Burton-on-Trent, inspired by the historic IPAs produced in the town for export to India during the British Empire. Empire Ale celebrates Burton's long-established brewing heritage, recreating the robust character and assertive bitterness associated with these original export-strength ales. Bottle conditioned to encourage natural maturation and carbonation, the beer delivers a strong, distinctive hop aroma accompanied by an intensely bitter flavour profile. Its substantial strength and pronounced hop character reflect the traditional approach to brewing IPAs designed to withstand long journeys overseas. At 7.5% ABV, Empire Ale offers a bold and uncompromising interpretation of the classic English IPA style, emphasising the bitterness and aromatic intensity that helped establish Burton-on-Trent as an internationally recognised brewing centre. The beer received the Guardian Bottled Beer of the Year award at the 1997 Great British Beer Festival and was runner-up in 1998, recognising its quality and distinctive traditional character.
