A powerful Abbey-style Ale from Burton Bridge Brewery in Burton-on-Trent, inspired by the town's centuries-old brewing heritage and the monks of Burton Abbey, who were among its earliest recorded brewers. Tickle Brain is the brewery's interpretation of the strong ales that may once have been produced within the historic abbey, combining traditional British brewing techniques with the rich character associated with Belgian-inspired abbey beers. Brewed with Northdown hops, this substantial ale offers a distinctive hop presence that complements its robust strength and traditional character. At 7.5% ABV, Tickle Brain delivers a powerful drinking experience, reflecting the brewery's ambition to recreate a historic style rather than follow contemporary brewing trends. Its unusual name comes from William Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part 1, in which the character Falstaff declares, 'Peace, good pint-pot. Peace, good tickle-brain.' The beer received the West Midlands CAMRA Bottled Beer of the Year award in 2006, recognising its quality and distinctive interpretation of traditional abbey-inspired brewing.
