Smoked Porter

About this beer

A rich and full-bodied Smoked Porter from The Runaway Brewery, combining traditional roasted malt character with the distinctive aroma of beech-smoked malt from Bamberg, Germany. At 6% ABV, this characterful dark beer draws inspiration from the long-established German tradition of smoking malt over beechwood, introducing a gentle smoky complexity to a classic porter foundation. The brewery uses rauchmalt, a traditional smoked malt associated with Bamberg, to create a subtle, sweet smoky aroma rather than an overpowering smoke character. Beneath this distinctive aromatic layer sits a substantial roasted malt profile, providing the depth and richness expected of a full-bodied porter. A carefully selected blend of British and American hops adds contrasting spicy and dark fruit aromas, helping to balance the roasted malt and gentle smoke. The resulting beer brings together several complementary elements: rich malt, soft beechwood smoke, warming spice and expressive dark fruit character. Presented in a 330ml bottle, Smoked Porter offers an intriguing alternative to conventional dark beers, particularly for drinkers interested in traditional smoked malt techniques. Vegan-friendly and brewed with barley and wheat, it showcases The Runaway Brewery's approach to combining established brewing traditions with distinctive, carefully balanced flavours.
