Brewery story

About Gyle 59

Gyle 59 began commercial production in 2014 from its rural home at Sadborow Estate Yard near Thorncombe. Built around a 10-barrel brewhouse, the brewery has developed a deliberately characterful approach to beer, describing its output as spring-fed, log-powered, propane-driven and unfined, with flavour placed firmly ahead of convention.

A distinctive supply of spring water is central to the brewery's approach, providing the foundation for beers designed to showcase the different qualities of their ingredients. Gyle 59 bottles its beer onsite and produces a range intended to make drinkers notice what is in their glass rather than simply provide an anonymous pint.

The brewery's rural home also has a beer garden, combining Gyle 59 beer with food, live music and seasonal gatherings, while bottles and mini-kegs are available to take away. This provides a direct connection between the brewery and visitors without losing the informal character of its countryside setting.

Gyle 59 also has a presence in nearby Lyme Regis through Fox & Owl Cellar at 57 Broad Street. The café-bar serves the brewery's beers from 12 self-service keg fonts alongside food, while a 20-seat cinema occupies the basement. Together, the brewery and Lyme Regis venue give Gyle 59 two very different settings in which to showcase its beers.
