Left Bank Brewery is a small independent brewery based on a farm near Llangorse in Powys. Brewing in the Brecon Beacons since 2019, it focuses on farmhouse-inspired, bottle-conditioned and cask beer made with local borehole water and an ambition to use more locally grown grain, hops and wild yeast.
Brewery story
Left Bank Brewery developed after an earlier period of brewing in various locations around London, before production moved to Ty Newydd Farm near Llangorse. The brewery began its Brecon Beacons chapter in spring 2019, taking over the former Lithic brewery premises and establishing itself in a rural setting on the northern edge of Llangorse Lake.
The farm location is central to Left Bank's brewing philosophy. The brewery wants to revive the tradition of farmhouse-brewed beer, where ingredients would historically have come from the surrounding land. Water is already drawn from a borehole on the farm, giving the beer a direct connection to the Brecon Beacons, while the longer-term ambition is to make greater use of locally grown barley, malt, hops and naturally occurring wild yeast.
Left Bank produces a varied range that includes Session IPA, Saison, Blonde, Rye Export and Porter Stout, alongside other changing beers. Production is focused on bottle and cask formats, with much of the beer supplied to local pubs and markets, and the brewery has also explored traditional bottle-conditioning as part of its approach to naturally carbonated beer.
The brewery's interest in local fermentation extends beyond simply using nearby ingredients. Left Bank has spoken openly about experimenting with wild local yeasts, drawing parallels with sourdough and cider production, where naturally occurring microorganisms play a central role. That ambition fits with its wider aim of developing beer that feels closely tied to the landscape around Llangorse.
Recognition has also come through competition. At the SIBA Wales regional awards in 2025, Left Bank won gold for Rodeo Double IPA in the cask IPA 5.6% and over category, adding formal recognition to a brewery that remains relatively small and locally focused.
Today, Left Bank combines traditional brewing methods with a distinctly local, experimental outlook. Its farm setting, borehole water and interest in regional ingredients give it a strong sense of place, while its broader goal remains the revival of farmhouse-style brewing in the Brecon Beacons.
