Leigh on Sea Brewery was established in 2017, producing vegan-friendly beers that are unfiltered, unpasteurised and unfined. Starting on a one-barrel kit before scaling up to a 10-barrel brewery, its beers and maritime-inspired branding celebrate the history and landmarks of Leigh-on-Sea.
Brewery story
Leigh on Sea Brewery was founded by Ian Rydings and Mark Springham after the idea for a local brewery emerged during a pub crawl around Old Leigh in December 2016. Brewing began in 2017 on a small kit while the main brewery was being installed, with the Tap Room opening that December.
The brewery quickly scaled up to a 10-barrel operation and built a range inspired by Leigh's maritime history and landmarks. Its branding was developed with local artist Neill Fendell and graphic designer Nick Petit, winning a national SIBA Business Award in 2018.
The brewery has continued to develop its core range alongside collaborations, new styles and small-batch specials. Gary Tredgett now leads the business, while Michael Vann, who joined in 2023, is Head Brewer.
Taproom & tours
The brewery's onsite taproom serves Leigh on Sea beers fresh from the brewery across 10 keg lines and two cask lines, alongside occasional guest beers, cider, spirits, cocktails and soft drinks. Beer and brewery merchandise are also available to take away, with regular food pop-ups, events and a semi-permanent food truck from Legra Tap & Kitchen.
