Independent Newton Aycliffe brewery founded in 2015 by husband-and-wife team Nick and Gulen Smith. Steam Machine explores a wide range of beer styles through experimental recipes, foraged ingredients and barrel ageing.
Brewery story
Steam Machine was founded in 2015 by husband-and-wife team Nick and Gulen Smith after more than a decade of homebrewing. Their approach centres on exploring the breadth of beer through experimental and historic recipes.
The brewery regularly works with foraged plants and barrel ageing alongside a wide variety of beer styles. Its taproom brings drinkers into the heart of the brewery, with beer often served directly from the tanks.
Steam Machine also hosts street food, live music, tastings, tours, comedy and folk sessions, and runs its Fellowship of Beer community for drinkers to take part in creative brewing choices.
