Brewery story
Wasted Degrees Brewing began in 2016 when Conall Low turned his enthusiasm for homebrewing into a commercial brewing venture in Highland Perthshire. Having developed an interest in making beer using a homebrew kit, Conall decided to leave his degree and day job behind to pursue brewing professionally. The business grew from these small beginnings into an independent brewery with a focus on producing fresh, flavourful beers. Its roots remain closely connected to the Perthshire communities around Pitlochry and Blair Atholl, where the brewery has developed a reputation for combining small-scale beer production with a welcoming and approachable identity.
In 2019, Wasted Degrees moved to its current premises at Sawmill Yard in Blair Atholl, providing a dedicated production facility from which to expand the business. Conall's brother Jack Low joined as co-owner in late 2021, bringing experience in commercial development in the UK and internationally. The following year marked another significant milestone when the brewery doubled its production capacity. Output grew to 35,200 litres in 2022, while the business also completed its first export shipment of 12,500 cans to Europe. These developments demonstrated the brewery's growing ambitions while maintaining its connections with local pubs and customers in Perthshire.
Alongside brewing, Wasted Degrees has developed a strong hospitality offering at its Blair Atholl premises. The brewery operates a seasonal Saturday taproom where visitors can enjoy its beers directly from the source, accompanied by pizzas made to order using fresh dough prepared onsite. The taproom attracts substantial numbers of visitors and offers a relaxed, predominantly outdoor setting that welcomes families and dogs. Beyond the seasonal bar, the brewery maintains a year-round shop selling takeaway cans and merchandise, and offers free brewery tours that allow visitors to discover how its beers are produced. The combination of brewing, food and visitor experiences has made the site a destination for both local customers and visitors to Highland Perthshire.
Wasted Degrees continued its expansion in August 2026 with the opening of a dedicated pub in Perth, offering 29 taps featuring beers, ciders, wines and cocktails alongside other drinks and snacks. The new venue extended the brewery's presence beyond Blair Atholl and created another opportunity for customers to discover its beers. Looking further ahead, the business has announced plans to establish a new brewery in Pitlochry in 2028, close to where Conall's original homebrewing journey began. With its combination of independent brewing, community hospitality, international distribution and future investment, Wasted Degrees continues to develop from its modest beginnings into a distinctive Perthshire brewing business.
