Family-run microbrewery established near Wigtown in 2019, producing traditional beers and ales for local and regional drinkers across south-west Scotland.
Brewery story
Wigtown Brewery was established in 2019 on the outskirts of Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town, after a homebrewing hobby developed into plans for a family-run microbrewery.
Its first commercial beer was Festivale, a traditional pale ale created for the 2019 Wigtown Book Festival using Maris Otter, Crystal and Amber malts with East Kent Goldings hops.
The success of Festivale encouraged the brewery to develop a range of six beers based around traditional recipes and clean, fresh flavours.
Production expanded following the arrival of new brewing equipment in 2023. Most beer is bottled for local sale, while cask beer reaches pubs around Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders, as well as festivals through the brewery's travelling bar.
