Description

Five Kingdoms Brewery is an independent brewery based in the Isle of Whithorn in Dumfries and Galloway. Established in 2015 by Alastair Scoular and Brendon Dennett, it grew from a shared passion for real ale into a small brewery producing cask, keg, canned and bottled beer. Its range spans traditional ales, dark beers and hop-forward IPAs, with much of its identity rooted in the people, places and culture that inspire each release.

Brewery story

About Five Kingdoms Brewery

Five Kingdoms Brewery began brewing in 2015 in the Isle of Whithorn, a harbourside village on the southern edge of the Wigtownshire peninsula in Galloway.

The brewery was founded by Alastair Scoular, owner of the local Steam Packet Inn, and Brendon Dennett, who was then the pub's head chef and had previous brewing experience with Six°North.

What started as a hobby and passion project developed into a commercial brewery, combining Alastair's experience of the pub trade with Brendon's brewing knowledge and a shared enthusiasm for real ale.

The brewery began on a small 2.5-barrel plant and built its reputation through local supply, serving outlets around Dumfries and Galloway as well as customers elsewhere in Scotland.

Five Kingdoms has also supplied selected national beer festivals and maintains a close connection with the Steam Packet Inn, where its beers are served alongside the pub's wider drinks offering.

As the brewery developed, its range broadened beyond traditional cask ale to include keg, cans and bottles, covering styles from classic ales to rich dark beers and modern hop-forward IPAs.

The team takes pride in keeping as much of the process as possible in-house, from recipe development and brewing through to naming, design, bottling, sales and deliveries.

Each Five Kingdoms beer is designed around an idea with personal significance to the team, with inspirations ranging from literary characters and music to places and lived experience.

Today Five Kingdoms remains a small independent brewery with a strong local identity, producing a broad mix of traditional and modern beer from its base in the Isle of Whithorn.
