Brewery story

About Zero Six Brew Co

Zero Six Brew Co was created by co-founders Matt and Spike, who had previously worked together at a printing company before turning a shared enthusiasm for beer into a brewing business. Matt's interest in making beer began with a small 0.5-barrel brewing kit and years of developing his own recipes before the pair decided to take the step into commercial brewing.

The Zero Six name has a personal connection to its founders. Both Matt and Spike became fathers in 2006, a year they remembered fondly and chose as the inspiration for the brewery's identity. Zero Six launched commercially in 2021, focusing on small-batch beers produced across bottle, can, keg and cask.

The brewery has built its identity around fun, music and sociability rather than taking beer too seriously. Live music, dancing and spending time with friends are recurring themes in the Zero Six brand, with the brewery describing its beers as something to accompany good times. That playful approach also extends to the names and character of beers such as Flamango, Double D Head and Unfair Dismissal.

Matoaka 82 was the beer that helped launch Zero Six after winning a blind tasting involving members of the brewery's Brew Crew. The citrus-led beer became its first core release and was followed by an increasingly varied range spanning pale ales, IPAs, lagers, porters and stouts. The brewery has continued to experiment with recipes and unusual flavour combinations, including the mango and hibiscus IPA Flamango and its chocolate and honeycomb stout Crunch Me Good.

Zero Six has maintained strong links to its Leicestershire home, using locally sourced ingredients where possible and building a community around its beers through the Brew Crew. Its beers are also closely connected with The Cork & Hop in Lutterworth, a tasting room and bottle shop showcasing Zero Six alongside independent beers and other drinks from producers across the Midlands, the UK and further afield.
