Brewery story

About Big Hug Brewing

Big Hug Brewing was founded in 2014 from a love of beer, drinks brands and a desire to use business to make a positive difference. Rather than establishing its own production brewery, Big Hug adopted what it calls a 'hobo brewing' model, working with friends and brewing partners across the industry to produce accessible, easy-drinking beers packed with flavour.

Social purpose has been part of Big Hug from the beginning. Alongside its focus on beer, the company supports organisations working with people affected by homelessness, including Only A Pavement Away, Centrepoint and YMCA DownsLink Group. Its environmental commitments also include a partnership with OneTribe, through which purchases contribute towards rainforest protection and climate action projects.

The brewery's range spans approachable modern styles including lager, pale ale, IPA and NEIPA, with each beer helping Big Hug pursue its wider aim of creating a positive impact for both people and the planet. The business continues to operate without its own production brewery, collaborating with brewing partners while building a distinct identity around beer, community and social responsibility.

Big Hug established its first permanent home with the opening of Big Hug Social on London's Bermondsey Beer Mile. Located beneath a railway arch on Enid Street, the taproom gives the brewery a physical home for the first time, with 12 taps featuring Big Hug's core beers and seasonal releases alongside drinks from producers that share its emphasis on positive social and environmental impact.
