Brewery story
Chain House Brewing Co. was established in 2017 in Preston, Lancashire, beginning as a small-scale brewing operation based in a garage. From these modest origins, the brewery developed a focus on experimental beers, exploring different ingredients, recipes and modern brewing styles. Rather than concentrating exclusively on traditional cask ale, Chain House placed particular emphasis on keg and canned beers, reflecting the growing popularity of contemporary independent brewing. Its small-batch approach allowed the brewery to experiment with new releases while developing a distinctive identity within Lancashire's expanding craft beer scene.
Collaboration became an important part of Chain House's development, providing opportunities to exchange ideas and create beers with other independent producers. The brewery has worked with a number of respected local and national names, including Rivington Brewing Co., Track Brewing Co. and Drop Project. These collaborations reflect its interest in experimentation and the wider independent beer community. Although keg and canned releases form the main part of its output, Chain House also produces occasional cask beers, maintaining a connection with traditional British serving formats. All beers brewed by Chain House are suitable for vegans, an approach that extends across its own range.
A major milestone came in 2022 when Chain House relocated from its original small-scale premises to the heart of Preston, establishing a brewery and taproom on Market Street West. The move created a dedicated destination where customers could enjoy the brewery's beers directly from the source while discovering a changing selection of guest producers. The taproom developed an extensive drinks offering, featuring fifteen keg lines and two rotating cask lines. Permanent options include lager, cider and nitro porter, complemented by eleven changing house and guest keg selections. Additional cider lines and a well-stocked beer fridge provide further choice, including gluten-free, low-alcohol and alcohol-free beers.
Today, Chain House combines experimental small-batch brewing with a welcoming city-centre hospitality venue. Its Preston taproom offers more than beer alone, with a carefully selected range of wines, spirits, cocktails, cider and soft drinks, alongside bottled and canned specialities such as lambic beers. The venue welcomes families and dogs and hosts events that bring customers together around independent beer. By maintaining a balance between its own evolving range and carefully chosen guest producers, Chain House has established a distinctive presence in Preston's drinking scene. Its journey from garage brewing to a dedicated brewery and taproom reflects the growth of independent brewing in Lancashire.
