Dunham Massey Brewing Company is an independent brewery in Greater Manchester, founded in 2007 and rooted in the brewing traditions of North West England. The brewery is best known for traditional cask ales made with English ingredients, while its modern range has expanded to include hop-forward pale ales and other contemporary styles. Its beers are supplied directly to pubs across the region, including the brewery-associated Costello's Bars in Altrincham, Stockton Heath and Warrington.
Brewery story
Dunham Massey Brewing Company opened in 2007 at Oldfield Lane in the village of Dunham Massey, near Altrincham. From the outset, the brewery focused on producing traditional North-Western ales inspired by the region's long brewing heritage.
Its early beers were built around English ingredients and traditional brewing methods, with an emphasis on balance, drinkability and classic regional styles. Traditional cask ales remain central to Dunham Massey's identity and continue to form an important part of its range.
As the brewery developed, its approach broadened beyond traditional styles. Alongside bitters and regional favourites, Dunham Massey now produces beers influenced by a wider range of modern brewing styles, including hop-forward pale ales, while maintaining the emphasis on flavour and balance that shaped its original beers.
Dunham Massey has also developed a strong direct relationship with pubs and drinkers across the North West. Around thirty outlets are supplied directly, while the Costello's Bar group provides dedicated venues for the brewery's beers. The first Costello's opened in Altrincham in 2010, followed by Stockton Heath in 2013 and Warrington in 2022.
In 2013 the business also expanded with the opening of sister operation Lymm Brewery and the Lymm Brewery Tap. Together, the two breweries reflect a broader commitment to traditional North-Western brewing while continuing to evolve their ranges and explore new styles.
