Greenmill Brewery is a small independent brewery based beneath The Harewood Arms in Broadbottom, Greater Manchester. Founded in Rochdale in 2007 by Mat, Phil and Yvonne Wild, the brewery produces traditional ales using a small-scale approach focused on quality and traditional ingredients. Alongside its established beers, Greenmill also produces occasional small-batch KeyKeg releases under the Prism Brew Co brand.
Brewery story
Greenmill Brewery was founded in 2007 by Mat, Phil and Yvonne Wild. The brewery began as a part-time venture in the basement of Queensway Snooker Club in Rochdale, with its first brew produced in July that year with help from brewery installer Dave Porter.
Greenmill initially brewed on a small 2.5-barrel plant before moving in 2010 to the Cask & Feather in Rochdale, a site previously associated with McGuinness Brewery. The move provided a new home as Greenmill developed its range and established itself within the local brewing scene.
In 2013 the family bought The Harewood Arms in Broadbottom, near Hyde, and rebuilt the brewery in the pub's basement. The move brought the brewing operation and pub together, giving Greenmill a permanent home from which its beers could be brewed and served directly to customers.
Greenmill's approach centres on producing quality ales using traditional ingredients and methods. Its beers are supplied to The Harewood Arms as well as a number of other pubs, with occasional beers complementing its regular production.
The brewery has also explored more contemporary beer through Prism Brew Co, a name used for small-batch craft beers packaged in KeyKeg. Each Prism release is produced as a one-off, allowing the brewery to experiment beyond the traditional ales at the heart of Greenmill.
Today, Greenmill remains closely connected to The Harewood Arms, a family-run traditional pub on the edge of the Peak District. With the brewery operating in the basement and its beers available upstairs at the bar, the Harewood Arms provides a direct link between Greenmill's brewing and the people drinking its beer.
