Irwell Works Brewery is an independent brewery in Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester, established in 2010. Brewing from a former industrial works on Irwell Street, the brewery operates a six-barrel plant producing a range of regular and seasonal ales. Its first-floor brewery tap serves beers directly above the brewhouse, while brewery tours offer visitors a closer look at the brewing operation.
Brewery story
Irwell Works Brewery began brewing in Ramsbottom in 2010, establishing its home in a historic building on Irwell Street. The site was once part of the Irwell Works, which housed steam, tin, copper and iron-working operations, giving the brewery both its name and a strong connection to the area's industrial heritage.
The brewery operates a six-barrel brewing plant and has developed a range of regular beers alongside changing seasonal releases. Its approach is centred on locally produced ales, with a number of its beers receiving awards since the brewery was established.
Irwell Works combines its brewing operation with a first-floor brewery tap, allowing customers to drink the beers close to where they are produced. The bar regularly pours established favourites alongside seasonal specials and newer creations from the brewery.
The brewery also offers beer for customers to enjoy at home, with its ales and other products available for collection and local delivery. This direct connection between the brewhouse, taproom and local drinkers has become an important part of Irwell Works' identity.
Brewery tours provide another way to explore Irwell Works, giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about the brewing operation and the historic building in which it is based. More than a decade after opening, the brewery remains firmly rooted in Ramsbottom and its local community.
