Newbarns Brewery

Newbarns Brewery was founded by four friends who moved north from London to establish a brewery in Edinburgh, bringing with them experience gained within the UK's independent beer industry.

Members of the founding team had previously worked at breweries including The Kernel and Siren, providing a background in modern independent brewing before starting Newbarns.

The brewery opened in 2020 at 13 Jane Street in Leith, establishing its production brewery in one of Edinburgh's historic industrial districts.

From the outset, Newbarns developed a varied approach to brewing rather than concentrating exclusively on a single style, combining influences from modern independent beer with an interest in more traditional brewing methods.

Cask-conditioned beer became a more significant part of the brewery's output towards the end of 2021. Newbarns has subsequently collaborated on cask releases with breweries from both the UK and overseas.

An adjacent taproom opened in 2022, giving Newbarns a permanent public space alongside its Leith brewery where its beers can be enjoyed close to where they are produced.

The taproom is now open from Thursday through Sunday, making the Jane Street brewery a regular destination for drinkers in Leith as well as a working production site.

Newbarns continues to produce both its own releases and collaborative beers from its Edinburgh brewery, with cask beer remaining a notable part of its identity alongside its wider range.
