Founded in 1850 by Dr William Okell, Okell's is one of the Isle of Man's most historic breweries and remains a cornerstone of the island's brewing heritage. What began as a small brewery in Douglas grew into one of the most influential names in Manx beer, producing traditional ales that have been enjoyed across generations.
Dr William Okell was a passionate advocate for brewing quality and played a key role in the creation of the Manx Pure Beer Act of 1874, legislation that helped establish strict standards for beer production on the island. The Act remains a defining part of Manx brewing culture today and continues to influence how beer is produced on the Isle of Man.
Now brewed at Kewaigue near Douglas, Okell's combines more than 175 years of brewing experience with modern production techniques. Its range includes long-established favourites such as Bitter, MPA, Jiarg and Dr Okell's IPA alongside seasonal releases and commemorative beers that celebrate Manx history and culture.
