Spookton Brew Co. is a Chester brewery established in 2022, initially brewing as a cuckoo operation before opening its own city-centre microbrewery and taproom in 2024. Its brewery combines small-scale production with a busy community-focused taproom and brewery tours.
Brewery story
Spookton Brew Co. launched in 2022 as a cuckoo brewery, producing its beers without a permanent brewhouse of its own. The business subsequently developed plans for a permanent home in Chester, allowing brewing and its connection with local drinkers to come together under one roof.
In 2024, Spookton opened its own microbrewery and taproom at St Thomas Pathway in the centre of Chester. The move marked an important step from its cuckoo-brewing beginnings, giving the brewery a dedicated production space and a permanent venue from which to serve its beers directly.
The taproom has developed into a community-focused space, opening five days a week and hosting a changing programme of events including quizzes, open mic nights, food pop-ups and creative gatherings. It is dog- and child-friendly, and the space can also be used for private events, parties, exhibitions and classes.
Visitors can also get closer to the production side of Spookton through brewery tours held at its Chester home. Together, the microbrewery, taproom and events programme give Spookton a strong physical presence in the city just a few years after beginning life as a cuckoo brewery.
