Small Batch Brewing Company

Small Batch Brewing Company was founded in 2020 as a family-run brewery focused on modern, flavour-driven beer styles.

The brewery began on an extremely small scale, using a single 50-litre fermenter in a garden room at the owner's home. Its first release was Fruit Salad Waterfall, followed shortly afterwards by Between Worlds.

Demand for the early beers quickly showed that the original equipment was too limited. Within weeks, additional fermenters and a larger brewing vessel were purchased to increase production.

Within around a year, the brewery had grown enough for the team to consider moving into its own commercial unit. Owner Dan made the significant decision to sell his house to help fund the expansion.

However, rising ingredient prices, utility costs and the additional overheads associated with commercial premises made the planned move increasingly difficult. Rather than abandoning the brewery, the team changed course and rebuilt the operation at their new home.

A purpose-built brewery was constructed in the back garden, equipped with four 300-litre fermenters and a 300-litre three-vessel brewing system. This allowed Small Batch to continue growing while keeping overheads manageable.

The brewery now produces small quantities of beer each week, primarily packaged in polykegs and cans. Its beers are supplied to a number of local outlets as well as being sold directly through the brewery's website.

Small Batch continues to focus on modern beer styles, particularly juicy hazy New England IPAs and more crisp, bitter West Coast-inspired IPAs, while retaining the deliberately small-scale character that has defined the brewery from the beginning.
