St Peters Brewery

St Peters Brewery was founded in 1996 by entrepreneur and branding pioneer John Murphy, who recognised the growing potential for craft beer in Britain long before the sector became mainstream. Located beside the medieval moated St Peter's Hall in the Suffolk countryside, the brewery occupies sympathetically restored agricultural buildings that reflect the area's rich rural heritage.

The brewery's location was carefully chosen for one of its most important ingredients: water. Every beer is brewed using naturally filtered chalk water drawn from the brewery's own deep borehole beneath St Peter South Elmham. Combined with East Anglian malt, carefully selected hops and traditional brewing methods, this creates the balanced, characterful beers that have become synonymous with the St Peters name.

St Peters is instantly recognisable for its iconic oval 500ml bottle, inspired by an eighteenth-century gin bottle discovered near the Delaware River in the United States. The brewery's logo combines a traditional brewing barrel, the keys of Saint Peter and a raven, referencing both the local history of St Peter's Hall and the Viking heritage of Suffolk's medieval past.

While traditional English bitters, golden ales, porters and stouts remain at the heart of the brewery's range, St Peters has also embraced historical brewing traditions by producing beers infused with ingredients such as honey, plum and other fruits, echoing recipes commonly brewed before the nineteenth century. More recently, the brewery expanded into alcohol-free brewing with its Without® range, producing full-bodied 0.0% beers without compromising flavour.

Today, St Peters Brewery continues to brew from its historic Suffolk home while exporting its beers to more than twenty countries worldwide. Alongside the brewery, St Peter's Hall operates as a destination for visitors, featuring a bar, restaurant, brewery shop and event spaces that celebrate the brewery's heritage and the wider food and drink culture of East Anglia.
