Brewery story

About Burnt Mill Brewery

Burnt Mill Brewery was founded in 2016 by Charles O'Reilly on a working farm at Badley, near Needham Market in Suffolk. Built inside a converted grain shed, the brewery takes its name from the historic burnt mill that once stood nearby, combining its rural surroundings with a modern approach to brewing.

In 2017 Sophie de Ronde joined as Head Brewer, bringing extensive experience in modern brewing techniques and helping establish Burnt Mill as one of the UK's leading producers of hop-forward beers. Together the team developed a reputation for unfiltered New England IPAs, crisp West Coast styles, elegant lagers and carefully crafted mixed fermentation beers.

Quality sits at the centre of every stage of production, from water chemistry and yeast selection through to dry hopping, maturation and packaging. Burnt Mill continually refines its brewing processes, ensuring beers are stable, expressive and never rushed before leaving the brewery.

Every Burnt Mill beer is brewed to be vegan friendly, with pea-based finings used to clarify bright beers instead of traditional animal-derived products. The brewery also produces a growing range of gluten-free beers, testing them well below UK legal requirements to provide confidence for drinkers seeking gluten-free options.
