Stroud Brewery is an independent organic brewery in Gloucestershire, founded by Greg Pilley in 2006. It produces classic British-inspired beers with its own distinctive character, combining organic ingredients, sustainable brewing and a strong commitment to its local community.
Brewery story
Stroud Brewery was founded by Greg Pilley in 2006 as a passion project built around making great beer for the local community while demonstrating that business could operate differently. From its earliest days, environmental responsibility and community were central to the brewery, alongside a brewing approach rooted in classic British beer styles.
The brewery grew quickly and by 2011 had a team of more than 20 and was producing fully certified organic beer. Its commitment to responsible business developed further in 2018 when Stroud became a certified B Corp, describing itself as the world's first brewery to combine organic and B Corp certification.
In 2019, Stroud moved into a new canal-side brewery and taproom at Kingfisher Business Park in Thrupp. Designed as both a production brewery and social space, the new home brought brewing, food, music and community together while supporting the brewery's efforts to reduce its environmental impact. In 2024, its beer range also became vegan.
Today Stroud continues to brew organic beer with a characteristic emphasis on body, malt and balance, complemented by more contemporary ingredients and ideas. Its busy onsite taproom has become an important part of the brewery, serving beer brewed just metres away alongside food and providing a welcoming community space at the heart of its Gloucestershire home.
