Independent, family-run Norfolk brewery founded by Simon and Natasha. Based at Hall Farm Barns in East Raynham, Stump Rat operates a modern 15-hectolitre brewhouse producing carefully balanced lagers, pale ales, stouts and seasonal beers, with particular attention to water chemistry, ingredient quality and consistency.
Brewery story
Stump Rat Brewing Company was founded in Norfolk by husband-and-wife team Simon and Natasha, united by a passion for well-made beer and the places that bring people together over a pint. Years spent travelling and visiting breweries and taprooms shaped their ambition to create something of their own, with an emphasis on quality, balance and beers worth returning to rather than chasing passing trends.
Simon's background brings an unusual scientific dimension to the brewery. A former British Army mechanical engineer, he trained as a brewer in Ireland before becoming a Chartered Geoscientist specialising in water quality. His understanding of water chemistry plays a central role in Stump Rat's recipes, alongside the Irish brewing influences of restraint, balance and drinkability.
Operating a modern 15-hectolitre brewery at Hall Farm Barns in East Raynham, Stump Rat produces everything from crisp lagers and hop-forward pale ales to rich stouts and seasonal releases. Carefully selected ingredients, tailored water profiles and precise brewing methods underpin its approach, while Natasha draws on her people-focused background in midwifery to build relationships with customers, venues and the local community.
The brewery's onsite taproom brings that philosophy directly to visitors, serving fresh beer just metres from the brewhouse and fermenters. With takeaway cans, beer launches and events, it provides a welcoming space for drinkers to discover the range. For Simon and Natasha, the ambition remains straightforward: brew beer they are proud to pour and build a brewery that earns its reputation one pint at a time.
