Duration Brewing

Duration Brewing was created around the idea of making 'beers that belong' — beers shaped by the place in which they are produced and by the landscape surrounding the brewery. Its home is Abbey Farm in West Acre, West Norfolk, where the brewery has developed as a modern farmhouse operation producing both fresh beer and wild and blended farm-style ales. Rather than treating location simply as an address, Duration places the character of the Nar Valley and its agricultural surroundings at the centre of its identity.

The brewery describes its approach as an estate model of beer making, drawing inspiration from the historic setting of West Acre and the produce of the surrounding landscape. Duration combines heritage brewing ideas with experimentation, aiming to develop beers from field to glass while respecting what came before it. Time, terroir and purpose are recurring themes, particularly in beers that use fermentation, blending and maturation to express something of their environment.

Duration's brewing encompasses both traditional and contemporary approaches. Fresh beers sit alongside wild and blended farmhouse-style ales, with beer released across cask, keg, can and bottle depending on the style. This breadth allows the brewery to produce immediately drinkable modern beers while also exploring slower processes where fermentation, blending and ageing become part of the character of the finished beer.

The brewery's ambitions extend beyond beer production. Duration set out to create a destination farmhouse brewery that could bring jobs and brewing skills to West Norfolk while becoming a place where people could learn about beer and spend time in the landscape in which it is made. Food, agriculture and hospitality form part of that philosophy, with the brewery presenting beer as something best enjoyed around a table and in the company of others.

Visitors can experience that approach directly at Duration's Abbey Farm taproom. The brewery opens its doors on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, pouring a regularly changing selection of its own beers alongside other drinks. Food trucks visit throughout the weekend, and the site combines cosy indoor areas with extensive outdoor space and views across its rural surroundings. The taproom is dog and family friendly, with walk-ins welcomed alongside advance table bookings.

Duration also runs bookable brewery tours, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the production side of the West Acre site and learn more about the thinking behind its beers. Together with seasonal events such as Oktoberfest, the tours and taproom help fulfil the original ambition of making Duration more than simply a production brewery, turning Abbey Farm into a destination where brewing, food, agriculture and the Norfolk landscape come together.
