Brewery story
Arthur's Stone Brewery, also known by its Welsh name Bragdy Maen Ceti, was established in 2024 as a small independent brewing operation near Swansea. Initially producing beer from a converted shipping container, the brewery focused on handcrafted bottled and live keg beers, experimenting with different styles and ingredients on a modest scale. Its name reflects the heritage of the Gower Peninsula, where Arthur's Stone is a well-known prehistoric monument associated with local folklore and the legendary King Arthur.
In 2025, the brewery relocated to Crofty, a village on the northern coast of the Gower Peninsula overlooking the Loughor Estuary. The move provided an opportunity to develop a more permanent home for brewing and hospitality. The new taproom officially opened in October 2025, welcoming visitors to enjoy locally brewed beer in a relaxed setting. What began as a small brewing project has gradually grown into a gathering place for residents and visitors exploring this part of South Wales.
Arthur's Stone produces a changing range of beers, including Firehouse 43, Salthouse Pale, Small and Party at the Ponderosa, an extra-pale gluten-free pilsner. The brewery also celebrates the wider independent beer community by featuring guest beers from producers such as Beer Riff and Dark Element. In May 2026, the team acquired a secondhand 1,000-litre brewing system to increase production capacity. By August, work was continuing to prepare its new home within the brewery, with installation and commissioning still to be completed.
The Crofty taproom has become an important part of the brewery's identity, bringing together beer, food and entertainment. Working with Gower Dough Co., Arthur's Stone hosts Sunday afternoon sessions featuring freshly made pizza, small plates and games, alongside regular DJ sets, live music and community gatherings. The venue has also welcomed events such as the Gower Surf Collective's summer celebration. Through its growing brewing operation and lively taproom, Arthur's Stone continues to develop a distinctive connection with the Gower community.
