Brewery story
Badgworth Brewhouse is a family-owned independent microbrewery situated at Home Farm in the rural Somerset village of Badgworth, near Axbridge. Surrounded by the countryside of the Somerset Levels and the nearby Mendip Hills, the brewery reflects a commitment to traditional brewing methods, quality ingredients and the character of its local surroundings. Operating on a working farm site, Badgworth has developed a range of beers intended to appeal to both traditional real ale drinkers and those interested in more contemporary brewing styles.
The brewery produces a range of eight beers, combining classic British styles with newer interpretations. Its beers are available in cask, keg and cans, allowing them to be enjoyed in different settings while retaining the brewery's emphasis on quality and flavour. Rather than concentrating on a single style, Badgworth aims to offer variety across its range, giving customers the opportunity to explore different tastes and brewing traditions. This balance between established methods and modern beer preferences is central to the brewery's identity.
An important part of Badgworth Brewhouse is its onsite taproom, housed in a former agricultural outbuilding at Home Farm. The building has been transformed into a welcoming rural bar, combining the atmosphere of its farming heritage with comfortable heated indoor seating. Outside, a courtyard provides space to enjoy a drink in warmer weather. The taproom usually offers five or six rotating beers from the brewery's range, served on cask and keg alongside cans available to take home.
The taproom also celebrates other local drinks producers, serving spirits from Cheddar Spirits and wines supplied by the Mendip Bottle, alongside alcohol-free options and soft drinks. This broader selection helps make the venue accessible to families, groups of friends and visitors who may not all be beer drinkers. With its converted farm buildings, countryside setting and emphasis on locally produced drinks, Badgworth Brewhouse offers a distinctive alternative to the traditional pub, bringing freshly brewed Somerset beer directly to the community.
