Brewery story
Drone Valley Brewery began brewing commercially in 2016 in Unstone, north-east Derbyshire, with an unusual idea at its heart: make good beer while doing good for the local community. Rather than being privately owned, the brewery operates as a Community Benefit Society and is owned by more than 750 members.
Volunteers are central to almost everything the brewery does, from brewing, racking and bottling to sales, events and running the Brewery Tap. Around fifty batches are typically brewed each year, covering a core range alongside seasonal and special ales produced using traditional brewing methods.
The brewery's motto, "good beers for good causes", sums up its purpose. Profits are used to support community groups, charities, youth organisations, schools and other local causes, while the brewery also supports independent pubs and clubs by supplying locally produced real ale.
The community extends to the brewery itself, where its volunteer-run tap welcomes drinkers for fresh beer, live music and events. A new bar opened in 2025, continuing to develop the brewery as both a working brewhouse and a gathering place for the local community.
