Brewery story
Ideal Day Brewery was established in Cornwall in 2023 by James and Nia Rylance, bringing together a love of traditional brewing and a belief that great beer begins with the land. Originally established near Saltash, the family-run brewery is now based in their hometown of Lostwithiel, on the banks of the River Fowey.
James's brewing influences stretch from the traditional pints of Bathams he enjoyed growing up in the West Midlands to The Kernel in London, where his brewing journey began. Ideal Day draws on classic British ales, Belgian farmhouse brewing and modern techniques, creating beers that celebrate ingredients and the character they bring to the glass.
Central to the brewery's philosophy is the relationship between farming and flavour. Its beers use regenerative wheat, heritage barley and whole-flower British hops sourced from a single UK farm. By working with ingredients grown through more sustainable agricultural practices, Ideal Day aims to support farmers restoring soil health and protecting the ecosystems that make good brewing possible.
For James and Nia, Ideal Day is closely connected to family life in the Cornish countryside, where they are raising their two sons. That sense of place runs through the brewery's approach: thoughtful, distinctive beers made with carefully chosen ingredients, respect for traditional methods and a commitment to a healthier future for British farming.
