Loch Lomond Brewery is an independent family brewery based near Dumbarton in West Dunbartonshire. Founded by Euan and Fiona MacEachern in 2011, the business grew from homebrewing in Luss into an award-winning brewery producing an evolving range of beers from a modern 35-hectolitre brewhouse, with in-house canning and an onsite taproom.
Brewery story
Loch Lomond Brewery began in the kitchen of Euan and Fiona MacEachern's home in Luss, on the shores of Loch Lomond. Their ambition was to turn a shared interest in brewing into a family business that everyone could be involved in, and in 2011 they established the brewery commercially in Alexandria.
The brewery quickly developed a reputation for traditional and modern beer styles, picking up a number of major awards as it grew. Among its successes were CAMRA Champion Beer of Scotland in 2017 and the SIBA Supreme Cask Champion of the UK award in 2016, helping establish Loch Lomond as a recognised name within Scottish independent brewing.
As production increased, the original brewery eventually reached capacity. The business rebranded in 2018 before moving into substantially larger premises near Dumbarton in late 2019, giving the team the space and equipment needed for the next stage of its growth.
The new brewery occupies around 12,000 square feet and is built around a modern 35-hectolitre brewhouse. Bringing canning in-house gave Loch Lomond greater control over its packaged beer, while the increased production space allowed the brewery to continue developing an ever-changing range of beers across a variety of styles.
The Dumbarton site also includes an onsite taproom, creating a direct connection between the production brewery and the people drinking its beer. The tap serves a wide selection of Loch Lomond releases alongside Scottish craft spirits, wine, soft drinks and snacks, while music and other events take place throughout the year. The venue is also designed to be welcoming to families and dogs.
More than a decade after starting in a kitchen in Luss, Loch Lomond Brewery remains a family-run independent business led by Euan and Fiona. From its purpose-built brewery near Dumbarton, it continues to combine larger-scale modern production with the family ethos and enthusiasm for brewing that originally inspired the business in 2011.
