One of Scotland's best-known island breweries, Orkney Brewery has been crafting traditional ales in the heart of Orkney since 1988, combining locally inspired recipes, pure Orcadian water and time-honoured brewing techniques.
Brewery story
Founded in 1988, Orkney Brewery brews its beers in the historic parish of Sandwick, just a short distance from the world-famous Neolithic village of Skara Brae. Surrounded by fertile farmland and the dramatic landscapes of Orkney, the brewery draws inspiration from more than 5,000 years of island history and tradition.
The brewery combines traditional brewing methods with carefully selected British malted barley, quality hops, a distinctive house yeast and exceptionally pure Orcadian water. Each batch is brewed using a time-honoured process of mashing, boiling, fermentation and cask conditioning to produce characterful ales that have become synonymous with Orkney.
Today, Orkney Brewery is one of Scotland's most recognised independent breweries, producing award-winning beers enjoyed across the UK. Visitors can explore the brewhouse, discover the brewing process, and experience the brewery's visitor centre while sampling beers inspired by the islands' unique heritage and landscape.
