Salcombe Brewery Co

Salcombe Brewery Co. was founded by John and Gerry Tiner, who had spent decades enjoying family holidays around Salcombe before moving to the area to pursue their ambition of running a brewery. The opportunity arose when John discovered that the brewery producing local beer Shingle Bay was due to close, prompting him to acquire the business and begin the journey that became Salcombe Brewery.

The brewery established its home at Estuary View, a former Water Board reservoir overlooking the Kingsbridge-Salcombe Estuary, and began brewing under the Salcombe name in September 2016. The unusual semi-submerged site provides naturally cool conditions for storing and conditioning beer, while an onsite borehole can supply pure Devonian water for brewing.

Sustainability has become central to Salcombe's approach, from locally sourced ingredients and recyclable packaging to sending brewing waste to feed local pigs. Growth led to an additional production facility opening nearby in 2021, adding bottling, canning, kegging, fermentation, storage and distribution capacity while the original Estuary View brewhouse remained at the heart of the brewery.

Salcombe has also developed a growing hospitality side, with its Estuary View tasting room joined by dedicated Tap Houses in Salcombe and Sidmouth. The venues combine brewery beer with food and other drinks, while guided tastings and brewery tours give visitors further opportunities to discover the beers, their flavours and the story behind the brewery.
