Sharps Brewery

Sharp's Brewery was founded in 1994 by Bill Sharp in a former speedboat store on Pityme Industrial Estate, near Rock, Cornwall. After experimenting with home brewing in his garage, Bill established a small brewery with a simple goal: produce consistently high-quality beer for local pubs and the growing holiday trade.

The brewery's first beers were Sharp's Own and Cornish Coaster, but in 1995 inspiration struck when Bill created a new amber ale by blending elements of both recipes. Named after the notorious Doom Bar sandbank at the mouth of the Camel Estuary, Doom Bar became a pioneering modern amber ale that rapidly gained popularity throughout Cornwall before expanding across the UK.

As demand increased, Sharp's was acquired in 2003 by Nick Baker and Joe Keohane, who invested in growing the brewery and introducing the brand to a national audience. In 2011, Sharp's became part of Molson Coors, bringing more than £20 million of investment into the Rock brewery while maintaining its commitment to brewing in Cornwall.

Today, Sharp's remains one of the country's most successful breweries, producing over a million pints each week from its Rock brewery. Alongside flagship beers such as Doom Bar, the brewery continues to innovate through its pilot brewery, creating new beers, alcohol-free brews and cider while remaining guided by Bill Sharp's original philosophy: 'We are only as good as our last pint.'
