Independent Cornish brewery founded in 2009, crafting award-winning ales inspired by the rugged North Cornwall coast. Brewing with local spring water and carefully selected ingredients, Tintagel Brewery combines traditional brewing techniques with the heritage, legends and landscapes that surround its home beneath Tintagel Castle.
Brewery story
Tintagel Brewery was founded in 2009 by John and Liz Heard on their family farm overlooking the dramatic North Cornwall coastline. What began life in a converted milking parlour has grown into an award-winning independent brewery while remaining rooted in the landscape that inspired it.
Every beer starts with pure spring water sourced from the hills above Tintagel, alongside carefully selected malts and hops. Traditional brewing methods are combined with modern creativity to produce balanced, characterful ales that reflect Cornwall's history, coastline and communities.
The brewery sits in one of Britain's most legendary landscapes, close to Tintagel Castle, St Nectan's Glen and Rocky Valley. These locations, steeped in Arthurian legend, ancient folklore and centuries of storytelling, continue to inspire the names, character and identity of its beers.
Today, Tintagel Brewery operates from a purpose-built brewery, visitor centre, restaurant and shop at Condolden Farm. Brewery tours, guided tastings and locally sourced food allow visitors to experience both the brewing process and the surrounding Cornish countryside.
Recognition has followed the brewery's commitment to quality, including Taste of the West Gold Awards in 2024 and 2025, Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2024 for Caliburn, SIBA Indie Beer Awards successes, and Cornwall Living's Food & Drink Producer of the Year 2025.
