Alter Ego Brewing Co

Alter Ego Brewing Co. is an independent microbrewery based in Alfreton, Derbyshire, producing full-flavoured beers across a broad range of traditional and contemporary styles. Rather than concentrating on a single approach, the brewery takes inspiration from classic British and European brewing alongside the creativity of modern craft beer. Its varied output reflects a passion for exploring different flavours while keeping beer approachable and enjoyable.

In 2022, Alter Ego upgraded to a six-barrel brewing facility at Meadow Lane Industrial Estate, providing greater capacity for its growing range of cask and keg beers. The brewery reports producing approximately 2,000 litres each week, with an emphasis on small batches and a constantly changing selection of styles. From familiar traditional ales to more adventurous contemporary releases, the team aims to offer something for different tastes and occasions.

The brewery has developed a strong connection with local drinkers through its hospitality venues. Its onsite brewery tap in Alfreton opens on Fridays and Saturdays, allowing visitors to enjoy Alter Ego beers where they are brewed. From March to October, the brewery also hosts special events on the final Saturday of each month, bringing together freshly poured beer, live music and visiting food vendors.

Alter Ego also operates The Tip Inn, a micropub in nearby Loscoe that places good beer and conversation at the centre of the experience. With five handpulls and six keg lines, the pub showcases Alter Ego's own beers alongside carefully selected guest ales, many from fellow Derbyshire breweries. Regular open mic sessions and locally sourced pub snacks add to its welcoming atmosphere, helping the brewery support a lively independent beer community beyond its brewhouse.
