Brewery story

About Bradfield Brewery

Bradfield Brewery was established at Watt House Farm in High Bradfield, on the edge of Sheffield and the Peak District. Brewing began as a side project intended to supplement declining income from the family's dairy farm, which at the time was milking around 100 cows a day. The beer proved more successful than expected, and as demand grew the family eventually made the difficult decision to stop milk production and concentrate fully on brewing.

Twenty years after its first brew, Bradfield has grown from its farming beginnings into a sizeable independent brewery producing more than 100,000 pints of beer each week. The brewery employs a team of around 25, with a further 20 people working across its brewery pubs, while remaining based at the same working farm where its story began.

Bradfield's farming heritage continues to shape the brewery's identity and its beers. Flagship ale Farmers Blonde takes its name from the Blonde d'Aquitaine breed of cattle, while the wider Farmers Ales range continues the agricultural theme. Although the brewery embraces new ideas and changing tastes, traditional, approachable session ales and the social culture surrounding the British pub remain central to its approach.

From its rural South Yorkshire home, Bradfield's beers now travel across the UK, reaching drinkers from Northampton to Northumberland and from the east coast to the west. The brewery also maintains strong links with its local community through sponsorship and support of organisations including Bradfield Golf Club and Wortley Rugby Club.
