About Brew York Beer
Brew York was founded in 2016 by friends Wayne Smith and Lee Grabham, who met at a stag do and began home-brewing after discovering a shared passion for craft beer. Their ambition was to create a brewery in the centre of York where visitors could drink fresh beer alongside the tanks in which it was made.
The original city-centre brewery and taproom became a destination in its own right, combining brewing with a welcoming social space. As demand grew, Brew York opened a larger production facility in Osbaldwick, allowing the brewery to expand while continuing to produce selected beers at its original brewhouse.
Brew York's beers draw inspiration from Yorkshire, popular culture, music, food and the founders' own experiences. The brewery regularly experiments with new hops, ingredients and styles, producing an ever-changing range alongside established signature beers.
Although Brew York is recognised for its colourful names and playful personality, its brewing remains focused on flavour, consistency and attention to detail. Its beer is available in cask, keg and can, supported by taprooms, pubs and hospitality venues across Yorkshire.
Taproom
Visit Brew York Walmgate
Brew York's flagship city-centre venue occupies the brewery's original Walmgate home, where visitors can drink alongside the brewing vessels. The downstairs taproom serves fresh cask and keg beer, while the Bavarian-style Beer Hall upstairs offers an extensive selection of beer, lager and cider alongside Asian-inspired food from YUZU Street Food. The venue also features brewery tours, a gift shop, a riverside beer garden and a front courtyard.
