Brewery story

About Brass Castle Brewery

Brass Castle Brewery was founded after its owners were inspired by the American craft beer movement while brewing in the United States. Back in Yorkshire, early batches were produced in a garage around Coastguard shifts before the brewery moved to a restored brewhouse on the Garrowby Estate, where award-winning beers such as Bad Kitty quickly established Brass Castle's reputation.

In 2014 the brewery relocated to Malton, North Yorkshire, building a permanent home in the town's thriving food and drink community. Investment in new equipment, a canning line and an adjoining taproom allowed production to expand while continuing to experiment with a wide range of modern beer styles, including beers that twice earned the title of the UK's champion lager.

Accessibility has always been central to Brass Castle's philosophy. Every beer is brewed without animal products, using a bespoke house yeast and carefully developed brewing techniques instead of traditional finings. Since 2017 the brewery has progressively moved its entire range to gluten-free recipes, with every batch independently tested to certified UK gluten-free standards, making Brass Castle one of the country's leading specialists in vegan and gluten-free craft beer.

Sustainability also plays a key role in the brewery's approach. Spent grain and hops are repurposed, reusable packaging is prioritised wherever possible, and water and cleaning processes are continually reviewed to reduce environmental impact. Rooted in the Malton community, Brass Castle continues to invest in its brewery while producing award-winning beers that combine quality, inclusivity and environmental responsibility.
