About Breakbeat Brewing

Breakbeat Brewing is a small independent brewery based in Southampton, born from a homebrewing project and a fascination with big, flavour-packed beers. Growing into a dedicated one-barrel brewery, Breakbeat has deliberately remained small-scale, allowing the team to concentrate on producing distinctive beers without compromising on ingredients, conditioning time or quality.

Imperial stouts sit at the heart of the brewery's range, but Breakbeat's enthusiasm for strong beer extends much further. Its releases have included high-strength lagers, hop-forward Quad IPAs and other experimental styles, with the brewery believing that higher-strength beers provide the depth and intensity needed to create the bold flavours it enjoys.

Experimentation is an important part of Breakbeat's approach. The brewery regularly explores unusual ingredients, flavour combinations and brewing techniques, including freeze distillation and methods designed to push beer to extreme strengths. New releases often begin with a simple idea or a question about what might happen when conventional brewing boundaries are pushed a little further.

Quality takes priority over quantity throughout the process. Some beers are conditioned for months before being released, with each batch tasted, tested and refined until it reaches the brewery's standards. If a beer isn't considered good enough, it isn't released. Working on such a small scale allows Breakbeat to closely control everything from ingredient selection and brewing through to packaging and presentation.

Rather than producing session beers, Breakbeat creates rich, intense beers intended to be enjoyed slowly and in smaller quantities. Founders Mike and Holly compare the experience to a decadent dessert, with their aim remaining the same as when the brewery began: to make distinctive beers they're proud to put the Breakbeat name on.
