Makemake is an independent Portsmouth brewery producing modern craft beer since 2019. Originally based at the Greenwich Brewpub in Southsea, the brewery moved to Central Point on Kirpal Road in 2022, where it operates a modern production brewery and onsite taproom. Makemake also runs FarFarOut, its bar on Palmerston Road in Southsea.
Brewery story
Makemake began brewing in 2019, initially operating from the Greenwich Brewpub in Southsea. From the outset, the brewery focused on modern craft beer rather than traditional cask production.
As the business developed, Makemake moved away from its original brewpub setting and established a dedicated production site at Central Point on Kirpal Road in Portsmouth in 2022.
The move gave Makemake a purpose-built home for brewing as well as space for a dedicated taproom. The Central Point venue allows drinkers to enjoy Makemake beer directly at the brewery during regular weekend opening hours.
Makemake's approach is centred on contemporary beer styles and keg and packaged formats, with the brewery specifically operating without cask ale production.
Alongside the brewery taproom, Makemake also operates FarFarOut in Southsea. Located on Palmerston Road, the bar extends the brewery's presence beyond its production site and provides another dedicated venue for its beers.
Today, Makemake combines brewing and hospitality across its Portsmouth and Southsea locations, with the Central Point brewery at the heart of production and its two venues providing direct ways for customers to experience the brand.
