Brewery story

About Conwy Brewery

Conwy Brewery was founded by chemist Gwynne Thomas, whose passion for brewing began with experimenting on a small scale from his home and garage in Llandudno during the early 2000s. After refining his recipes, Gwynne and his wife Adele established Conwy Brewery in 2003, becoming only the third brewery to open in North Wales for more than a century.

Early success came with beers such as Honey Fayre, which helped the brewery secure supermarket listings, followed by popular core beers including Welsh Pride and Clogwyn Gold. As production expanded, the brewery relocated to a purpose-built site in Llysfaen in 2009, providing larger brewing facilities alongside the MASH taproom overlooking the North Wales coastline.

Conwy Brewery continues to produce over one million pints each year across a range of cask, bottled, canned and keg beers. Sustainability remains central to the brewery's approach, with solar energy, spent grain reused as cattle feed, brewing by-products sent for anaerobic digestion, low water usage and minimal filtration helping to reduce its environmental impact while maintaining naturally conditioned, flavourful beers.

Although Gwynne and Adele retired in 2021, the brewery remains a family business through their son Oliver Thomas, who continues to work as part of the brewery team, helping carry forward the values and traditions established by its founders.
