Brewery story
About Howling Hops
Howling Hops began brewing in the basement of The Cock Tavern in Hackney after founder Pete Holt spent years championing independent beer through his London pubs. What started as a small brewpub experiment quickly outgrew its original home, leading to the opening of the brewery and Tank Bar in Hackney Wick in 2015. There, the brewery created its signature serving system, with beer travelling just 12 inches from fermentation tank to glass, allowing every beer to be poured at its ideal temperature and carbonation for exceptional freshness.
Freshness remains the guiding principle behind everything Howling Hops brews. Known for expressive hop-forward pale ales, IPAs and double IPAs, the brewery combines bold modern flavours with beers designed to remain balanced and drinkable by the pint. Alongside its celebrated hoppy releases, Howling Hops regularly experiments with dark beers, barrel-aged projects and collaborative brews, reflecting a philosophy of continual learning and innovation.
The brewery has always been deeply connected to Hackney Wick's independent community, with its Tank Bar becoming a destination for fresh beer lovers and local residents alike. Sustainability also plays an important role, from extensive recycling and reusing packaging materials to reducing water and energy consumption by serving beer directly from tanks instead of traditional kegs. Today, Howling Hops continues to push modern British brewing forward while remaining true to the simple idea that great beer is at its very best when it's enjoyed as fresh as possible.
