Brewery story
Jawbone Brewing was established in 2020 by Ben Hughes, whose varied career across construction, advertising and finance eventually led him into independent brewing. Driven by a passion for bold flavours and experimentation, Ben set out to create a brewery that would bring something distinctive to London's craft beer scene. He found a home at a working boatyard in Twickenham, beside the River Thames, where he established a 30-hectolitre brewhouse and an adjoining taproom. The brewery reflects his commitment to innovation, quality and a broad appreciation of different beer styles.
From its beginnings, Jawbone has focused on producing beers with character and distinctive flavours. Its initial releases were packaged in cans, with keg beer following soon afterwards. The brewery explores a wide spectrum of styles, combining creative recipes with careful attention to the brewing process. Rather than concentrating on a single type of beer, Jawbone embraces experimentation and continuous improvement, with Ben's enthusiasm for developing new flavours shaping its approach. Its beers are produced in keg and can, with no cask ale currently offered.
The brewery's BeerDock taproom provides a direct connection between Jawbone and its customers. Located beside the working boatyard, the riverside venue features seven changing taps serving the brewery's latest releases. Visitors can meet the team, look around the brewery and enjoy beers close to where they are produced. Children and dogs are welcome, helping create an informal, inclusive atmosphere. The taproom has become an important part of the brewery's identity, combining its industrial surroundings with the character of the River Thames.
Jawbone remains proudly independent, guided by values of inclusivity, integrity and good humour. Ben and his partner Emma have strong connections to the local area, and the brewery reflects their enthusiasm for this part of London. Through its combination of creative brewing, riverside hospitality and an emphasis on quality, Jawbone continues to develop its place within London's independent beer scene while offering customers the opportunity to experience its beers directly at the source.
