Marble Brewery is an independent Manchester brewer founded in 1997 at The Marble Arch pub. Now based at a modern brewery in Salford, Marble produces a broad range of cask and craft beers spanning traditional Manchester styles, hop-forward releases, collaborations and annual specials. Its beers are known for combining established brewing traditions with a long-standing focus on innovative, flavour-led brewing.
Brewery story
Marble Brewery was founded in Manchester in 1997 at The Marble Arch, a Grade II-listed Victorian pub that remains closely associated with the brewery today. Its first beers were brewed in the back of the pub on a 4.5-barrel brewing kit installed by brewer and brewery engineer Brendan Dobbin.
For twelve years, brewing took place within The Marble Arch itself, with the brewhouse visible behind glass to customers drinking at the bar. Fermenters and conditioning tanks were housed in the cellar below, creating a close connection between the brewery and the pub from the very beginning.
As demand increased, Marble moved production in 2009 to Williamson Street, a short distance downhill from The Marble Arch. The new site, housed beneath two railway arches, increased brewing capacity to 12 barrels and remained Marble's home for the following decade.
In 2019 the brewery moved again, this time to its current site at Boston Court in Salford. The relocation brought a major upgrade to the brewing operation, including a 25-hectolitre Gravity Systems brewhouse, new fermenters, a new cold store and modern production equipment designed to support the brewery's growing range.
Marble has built its reputation by combining traditional cask brewing with modern craft beer influences. Its range includes established beers such as Manchester Bitter, Lagonda and Pint alongside its Hop Forward beers, collaborations, seasonal releases and annual specials.
The brewery has also played an influential role in the wider British craft beer industry. Over the years, a number of brewers who worked at Marble have gone on to senior roles or founded breweries of their own, including people associated with Blackjack, Cloudwater, Thornbridge, Salt, Vocation, Hawkshead and Wander Beyond.
Today, Marble is led in the brewhouse by Head Brewer Joe Ince and continues to produce a broad range of flavour-focused beers from its Salford brewery. Its onsite taproom provides views across the brewery floor, while The Marble Arch remains the brewery's flagship venue and spiritual home in Manchester.

The Marble Arch is Marble's flagship pub and the original home of the brewery. The Grade II-listed Victorian pub has a distinctive sloping mosaic floor and barrelled ceiling, with nine handpulls serving brewery-fresh cask beer alongside eight keg lines and a carefully selected cider range. The pub also serves food from its open kitchen and has a hidden beer garden behind the building.
